MONITOR IP RATINGS  EXPLAINED

Ingress Protection Code (IP) is an internationally accepted standard.  It classifies and rates the degree of protection provided by enclosures. Protections include against intrusion and dust. Also included are accidental contact, and water. For example, this rating provides a standardized metric to compare different products’ performance with each other. The first number refers to protection against solids.  IP second number refers to protection against liquids.  Additionally, there may be an X in the rating.
