TOP CONSIDERATIONS FOR CHOOSING A MONITOR OR TOUCH DISPLAY FOR AN EV CHARGER:
When choosing a touch display or monitor for your EV charger, here are some typical features that can be crucial to your decision making for an outstanding customer experience. The size of the LCD touch panel or display will determine how much information can be displayed at one time. Consider if it needs to only display information or does it need to be an interactive touch screen? Other features, such as resolution, brightness and viewing angles will all come into play to help the user find it easy to use. Additionally, extended operating temperatures and the weather elements also must be considered, especially outdoors. Will it work in rain and snow, or if the person is wearing gloves?
SIZE OF DISPLAY FOR EV CHARGING STATION:
- The size of your display determines amount of information which can be displayed on the screen. A pleasant user experience is one that makes the touch screen information easily readable, without it being too bulky for installations. There eventually will be a wave of new charing stations competing for this new market. Ensuring the customer ease in use is crucial. TRU-Vu Provides Monitors and touch screens from 8 to 75 inches. The types of people using the display will be varied, and no one wants to squint at a tiny panel for directions. It’s important to choose a size that accommodates all aged customers, even some with slight vision impairment or less experience with this technology.
- Our most popular size for this application is anywhere from 10″ to 15.6″, but we’ve also seen several in the 18.5″ to 24″. Choosing a display over 15″ makes it seem much more state of the art and provides a more modern experience. Different sized displays have different aspect ratios. The TRU-Touch process ensures that the outer surface of the touch display are scratch-resistant. This offers not only protection to the display, but helps retain the image clarity, allowing optimal performance in challenging applications. TRU-Touch by TRU-Vu provides reliable response through water and liquids, extreme temperatures. In addition to a bare finger it can also be activated with not only surgical gloves or thin cotton gloves, but some thicker gloves as well.
We use Optically Clear Adhesives. This minimizes losses for improved readability, even in bright sunlight. TRU-Vu’s UV-stable optical adhesives provide an extra layer of protection for the display. This blocks harmful sunlight UV rays degrading the display over time.
EVEN WITH HIGH RESOLUTION, IF IT IS NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH, IT MAY BE HARD TO READ!
Our Resolutions vary between800 x 600 (SVGA) to FULL HD, but even with a high resolution it may be hard to read in bright light conditions unless it is bright enough. We specialize in Sunlight Readable High Brightness Monitors. TRU-Vu High Bright Sunlight Readable Monitors enable users to see clear, sharp video images even in direct sunlight with a bright screen. Our high brightness displays produce at least 1,000 nits brightness. Some go up to 2,500 nits of brightness. This makes them far brighter than standard LCD monitors. Specifically, consumer or commercial-grade monitors typically offer only 150 to 300 nits brightness. High brightness displays and sunlight readable touch screens will ensure crystal-clear video images even in bright sunlight. The result is better performance and bold colors in other high ambient light conditions as well. They are also available with optical bonding as monitors or touch screen displays.
In outdoor or bright conditions, it is imperative to increase the brightness of a display to ensure crisp images. The number of nits an LCD display emits is the main factor in determining the monitor’s perceived brightness. A monitor luminance of around 200-350 nits will work well indoors. Most LCD displays and monitors fall in this range. However, 400-700 nits would be required for use in daylight conditions. Most importantly, a Sunlight readable display requires at least 1,000 nits or more for viewing in direct, bright sunlight . All TRU-Vu Sunlight Readable monitors and high-brightness touch screens are TAA Compliant.
WHAT IS OPTICAL BONDING?
Some monitors feature a sheet of glass over the LCD panel to protect it from accidental or intentional damage. However, the glass also produces unwanted glare and reflections. Internal reflections in the air gap between the glass and the LCD panel diminish image quality even further. In order to combat this, monitors are optically bonded. Optical bonding is the process of laminating protective glass or a touch screen panel to the LCD panel with an optical-grade resin. This completely fills the air gap between the glass and LCD panel. It not only eliminates the internal reflections, but also increases the contrast ratio. This makes the screen appear much brighter and more viewable in bright light conditions. Optical bonding also eliminates internal moisture and condensation. Moreover, it will make the monitor more rugged and durable. Lastly, an Anti-Reflective coating is applied to the outside of the glass. Consequently, this will drastically reduce glare and surface reflections.

YOUR SOURCE FOR OPEN FRAME MONITORS
At TRU-Vu Monitors we understand that an OEM or systems integrator may need to integrate frameless monitors into limited space areas. Specifically, they may need to be inserted into a panel, enclosure, or kiosk. Other examples might include a control box, or carrying case. But, a standard LCD monitor enclosure may not fit properly. Therefore, we offer a full range of open frame monitors and LCD modules to accommodate nearly any space restrictions you may have. We will provide both open frame monitors and LCD kit solutions. Open-frame Sunlight Readable models range from 8.4″ to 32″ screen sizes. Consider our SRMOBTP-15.6A-OF which is a 15.6″ sunlight readable open frame touch screen.
Open frame monitors will be completely assembled, but without the typical outer enclosure. (see picture to the right). Consequently, we will mount the components to the rear of the LCD panel itself, or onto a rear metal plate. (This is just one example of many possible designs.) We will provide mounting flanges, slots and holes to meet your mounting needs. A wide variety of sizes for frameless monitors screen sizes are available.
